Garage Sale Find: A Crowning Moment

The story so far: someone's being awarded something. An achievement, a dedication, a something. It looks like she's the recipient, but she could be giving it to him. But they're not happy. No. Look at those frowns trying to smile through. What with the tension? Could it be a race thing? I'm not sure. I have zero answers to lots of questions but I have a lifetime to ponder them while I stare at these strangers hanging patiently on my bedroom wall.
